I have been teaching for close on to forty years. My approch is based on respect for the horxe and it’s nature. Of course we must consider the human side of this relationship! The horse is a prey animal with an instinct to flight. As humans we are predators. Our brains and instincts differ widely from the horse’s. It is incumbent upon us to listen to our horses and to work to create a dialogue between us that the horse can understand. A dialogue that gives space for calm learning. A new language that we develop and share together.
I like to say that when we pick up the reins we are going ‘brain to brain’ with our horse. The horse’s mouth is so sensitive and with this he explores his world. Our hands also are sensitive and with them we also explore our world. This connection allows for a dialogue between human and horse that is endless.
